Flatdogs Camp welcomes every type of safari-goer to rest their head. There are the family-friendly Chalet Rooms, the wild and luxurious Jackalberry Treehouse, the traditional Safari Tents with 270° views, and the ultra-private Crocodile Nest.
A child is anyone under 12 years old however, the Croc Nest is not generally suitable for children under the age of 6 years.
Croc Nest at Flatdogs Camp
The Crocodile Nest is a spacious tented house poised on a deck overlooking the Luangwa River, offering stunning river views. It features two en-suite tented bedrooms at either end, each configurable with either one king-size or two twin beds. Both bedrooms boast semi-open-air bathrooms. In the heart of the camp is a shared living and dining area. Guests of the Croc Nest have the option to dine privately within the comfort of their accommodation.
Each bedroom and the living area open onto an expansive outdoor deck that overlooks the Luangwa River. Adding to the exclusivity, there is a private swimming pool integrated into the deck, exclusively for house guests, providing a refreshing escape with picturesque river views.
Enhanced by personalized service, guests enjoy the privilege of a private guide and a dedicated safari vehicle, allowing them to customize their activities based on personal interests.
Jackalberry Treehouse at Flatdogs Camp - Open-fronted treehouse with 2 bedrooms
The Treehouse is constructed around three Mchenja trees, incorporating the natural landscape into its design. It consists of two en-suite bedrooms set on separate platforms, each featuring romantic, rustic four-poster beds—one queen and one king, which can be split into twin beds. These open-fronted bedrooms offer guests sweeping views of the African wilderness.
Each bedroom extends into an open-air bathroom, this unique feature ensures a refreshing yet intimate connection with the surrounding environment.
In the heart of the Treehouse is the central living and dining deck, strategically positioned between the two bedrooms. As animals frequently pass close to the treehouse, guests can enjoy exceptional game-viewing right from their perch. Additionally, a dining table and chairs are provided for those who prefer the intimacy of in-house dining.
Chalet Rooms at Flatdogs Camp
Flatdogs Camp offers a range of chalet rooms, designed to accommodate various group sizes and preferences, an ideal choice for both families and individual travellers. There are a total of eight rooms, structured in a unique layout to maximize privacy and convenience.
Six of the chalet rooms are distributed across three separate buildings. Each building consists of a downstairs double room with an ensuite bathroom and an upstairs room that can be arranged as a twin or a triple. The upstairs rooms have access to a private bathroom located downstairs, ensuring privacy and ease of access. Each room comes with a veranda, adding a private outdoor space to enjoy the surroundings.
Between the downstairs and upstairs rooms, a small kitchenette with a fridge, kettle, and tea/coffee-making facilities acts as an inter-connecting door. This setup is particularly convenient for families, allowing easy indoor access between rooms without the need to go outside.
For larger families or groups, the family chalet is situated furthest from the main area. This chalet includes three bedrooms but is served by only two ensuite bathrooms, perfect for groups. The two downstairs bedrooms each have ensuite facilities—one room is fitted with a king bed and a single bed, while the other can accommodate either a king and a single or three single beds.
A kitchen area is centrally located between these two bedrooms, and a spiral staircase leads up to a loft room and an upstairs viewing deck. The loft provides two additional single beds and a sitting area but does not have an ensuite bathroom; guests in this room share the bathrooms downstairs. The family chalet has a viewing deck that offers beautiful views towards the Luangwa River.
Luxury Ensuite Safari Tents at Flatdogs Camp
Seven Luxury Ensuite Safari Tents are designed to blend comfort with the authenticity of a safari adventure. Positioned along the serene banks of the Luangwa River, these tents provide a perfect vantage point for observing wildlife.
Each of the six riverside tents is permanently pitched under a thatched roof and these custom-made tents are equipped with ensuite facilities including a hot shower, flush toilet, and a basin with a canvas half-roof for an open-air feel. Inside, you’ll find full-sized beds with sprung mattresses, large mosquito nets, and all necessary bedding and towels.
For convenience and comfort, the tents are outfitted with electric lights, a fan, and charging points for camera batteries. Additional amenities include a room safe and tea & coffee making facilities, ensuring a comfortable stay.
Distinguished from the other tents, the Family Tent is specially designed to accommodate families. It includes a double bed and two single beds, all under large mosquito nets, with a spacious bathroom located at the rear of the tent. Recently relocated to a riverside position closer to the main camp area, it offers excellent views of the river, enhancing the safari experience.
Honeymoon Tent (Tent 11) This tent is set apart for its privacy and unique location overlooking a picturesque lagoon. It’s a haven for birdwatchers and provides frequent sightings of elephants taking mud baths and other wildlife such as giraffes and bushbuck.
Flatdogs Camp Classic ensuite safari tents
There are also three “Classic” en-suite safari tents which are smaller and simpler than the Luxury tents but are still walk-in tents with ensuite bathrooms with open-air showers, toilets and basins. Two of these standard tents are situated on the river bank, the other looks directly onto the same lagoon as tent 11 (the honeymoon tent). The standard tents also have full beds (king or twin), bedding, mosquito nets, charging points and electric fans. The standard tents do not have tea and coffee-making facilities or safes.
Accommodation, all meals, two game-viewing activities per day, Park entry fees, LLCF, laundry service and return Mfuwe airport transfers. Drinks (from the bar and at the Croc Nest) are not included.

Great advice, responsive and knowledgeable!
Pascal John at Safari.com guided me on different safari lodges (experience, rating), and most importantly knew about specials (buy 3 nights, get 4th for free) which allowed my family to secure a 5-star location at a more reasonable rate. Great advice, responsive and knowledgeable!
