Recognizing that ethics in wildlife tourism requires much deliberation, we have distilled our principles to the following: We support only travel partners that ensure animals live as happily and healthily as they would in the wild, and we oppose commercial exploitation except for ethical sanctuaries that rescue, rehabilitate, and sometimes release animals. We minimize human contact with wildlife to maintain natural behaviors, with exceptions like controlled gorilla trekking. Our partners adhere to strict guidelines to protect animal well-being, and we regularly assess their practices to ensure compliance with our ethical standards, fostering continuous improvement in wildlife conservation and education.

While many companies highlight affiliations with associations or tourism boards as a guarantee of financial security, the truth is that these assurances often come with limited coverage and can lead to lengthy legal disputes. SAFARI.COM stands apart in this regard. Unlike many companies in our industry, we did not rely on customer or supplier funds to sustain operations during COVID. Instead, our shareholders stepped in to support the business, ensuring we upheld our commitments without compromise. This steadfast approach reflects our unwavering dedication to integrity and customer trust.

SAFARI.COM was founded by Ric Meulemans and Oliver Bryant in 2006.
In 2015, Caxton CTP (a publicly traded company on the JSE) purchased 50% of the business.  Today, Ric, Oliver and Caxton CTP are the sole shareholders of the business.
At the time of this writing, Caxton has R2.5billion in cash (approx. $140m USD) on its balance sheet.
