The Detail

The lodge boasts ten spacious chalets and three suites.

The Chalets are all decorated individually and have en-suite bathrooms with a bath, inside and outside showers; hairdryers, safes, Wi-Fi access and private decks. These comfortable rooms offer a safe, cool haven between activities.

The two Makubela Suites and the Leadwood Suite, secluded in the surrounding bush, offer a luxuriously furnished lounge, private timber deck, and pool with comfortable loungers. Each room has its own mini bar, bath, inside and outside shower, hairdryer, safe and wi-fi. Guests can request their choice of minibar drinks, which will be arranged. It's not uncommon for elephants to come close to the pools of the Makubela suites so have your camera ready for an up-close view of these majestic animals.

The lodge has recently been refurbished and a gazebo was added as a great relaxation area from which guests can enjoy spectacular views of the bush from three sides of the lodge.

After exciting game viewing, guests have some free time to either cool off in the sparkling boulder pool or perhaps go for a workout in the well-equipped gym.

Sumptuous meals are served either on the sheltered timber deck with magnificent views of the surrounding bush and wildlife or in the boma under a canopy of stars. There is nothing like a cold refreshing drink in the bar after an exciting game drive in the African bush.

Idube Game Reserve traverses approximately 10 000 hectares of wildlife area. Knowledgeable rangers and skilled Shangaan trackers lead early morning and late afternoon game drives, offering guests up-close encounters with the Big Five. Walking safaris provide a more intimate experience, and offer an opportunity to track game and get up close to the diverse bird, insect and plant life of the reserve. Idube also offers additional activities such as informative wildlife talks, a tracker’s course, visits to the Shangana Cultural Village, and traditional dance performances.

The success of viewing leopard within this area is legendary and guests frequently sight cheetah, hippo, wild dog and a large variety of antelope during their stay.

There are regular sightings of rare species, such as the roan antelope, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and wild dog. Evening game drives reveal the more rarely seen nocturnal creatures, such as porcupine, aardwolf, genet, serval, white-tailed mongoose, bushbaby, civet and brown hyena.

Birdlife is prolific with over 300 species recorded in the reserve. Raptor sightings include Martial, Tawny and Fish Eagles as well as Steppe Buzzards and Spotted eagle owls. Southern Ground Hornbills have nesting sites close to the lodge, and iridescently plumaged birds, such as the Lilac-breasted roller, Southern Carmine Bee-eaters, and Malachite kingfishers are often sighted.
