Why

Moremi Game Reserve is a pristine wildlife sanctuary located in the central and eastern areas of the Okavango Delta, including Chief’s Island which boasts some of the most diverse ecosystems and wildlife in Africa, and is regarded to be the "predator capital" of Africa.

The region offers incredible game viewing with regular sightings of buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, jackal, impala, red lechwe and African Wild dog. The Rhino species has been slowly introduced into private areas of the reserve and has shown positive results, making the Moremi Game Reserve a Big Five safari destination. Moremi is also a birding paradise with over 400 species of resident and migratory birds.

The Moremi Game reserve offers a picturesque setting of riverine and mopane forests during the flood season, creating a network of waterways and lagoons to explore by boat and mokoro (traditional dugout canoe). It is one of very few destinations to offer a land and water based safari experience, and the opportunity to experience traditional African safari camps.

When

The Moremi Game Reserve changes dramatically with the seasons, making it an all year round safari destination.

The dry season months of May to September is considered to be the best time to visit the Moremi Game Reserve. There is less vegetation and animals do tend to congregate around waterholes, making game viewing a lot easier. In addition to this, during the months of June to October, the Okavango Delta is generally in full flood making boating and mokoro safaris available at many lodges and camps. The days are pleasant with clear skies and very little chance of rain, but the early mornings and evenings do tend to be much cooler. The dry season is considered to be high season but the reserve never feels overcrowded.

In the month of November, although still considered to be great for game viewing, travelers should be aware that the weather conditions can be unpredictable, experiencing both sunshine and rainfall.

The wet season months of December to April bring with them new life - a lush vegetation, newborn babies, and high predator interaction. The days are generally sunny and warm, but can change in an instance as the clouds pullover and burst. These rain showers are usually short and heavy. The wet season is renowned for its incredible bird watching opportunities and many lodges and camps like to offer reduced rates as the reserve is a lot quieter. The months of January and February do generally experience the most rainfall.

Where

Moremi Game Reserve nestles in northern Botswana and forms part of the world-renowned Okavango Delta. Regarded as the largest inland river delta in the world, this UNESCO World Heritage Site offers breathtaking vistas of permanent marshes, mopane woodlands and seasonal floodplains.

This region is home to some of the world’s most endangered species of large mammal, such as the cheetah, white rhinoceros, black rhinoceros, African wild dog and lion. The Moremi Game Reserve has become one of the best places to view animals and birdlife, with over 500 species of birds, 85 recorded species of fish, and 160 species of mammal.

The 500 000 hectare Moremi Game Reserve includes Chief's Island and the Mopani Tongue which afford travelers an exclusive safari experience on both land and water. With a selection of luxury lodges and authentic bush camps positioned in prime locations of the Moremi Game Reserve, travelers are able to experience the best of the African bush, including mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) safaris, open-vehicle game drives, birding safaris, mobile safaris, walking safaris, hot air balloon safaris, and fishing expeditions.

Great advice, responsive and knowledgeable!
Pascal John at Safari.com guided me on different safari lodges (experience, rating), and most importantly knew about specials (buy 3 nights, get 4th for free) which allowed my family to secure a 5-star location at a more reasonable rate. Great advice, responsive and knowledgeable!
